AB SA RO KA

The foundation. Terrain as origin.

Release Date: 3/1/2014

AB SA RO KA marks the origin of RANGES. Rooted in landscape rather than doctrine, it establishes RANGES’ foundational language. Unlike later records that orbit moral or philosophical frameworks, AB SA RO KA is elemental. It is terrain before theology.

The title references the Absaroka Range of Montana, grounding the project geographically and spiritually. This is not metaphorical ascent. It is physical elevation. The mountain precedes the temple.

Sonically, the album is expansive and patient. Themes unfold slowly, emphasizing environment over narrative. The compositions feel less like chapters and more like vistas. Wide, open, and indifferent to interpretation.

Visually, the language is restrained. Earth tones. Negative space. No overt symbolism. This absence becomes important in hindsight: the symbolic system had not yet surfaced.

Within The Octaves, AB SA RO KA represents the beginning. The foundation. It is the ground floor upon which the conceptual architecture would later rise.
